Who is a Reiki healer?

Anyone, male or female, who can perform healing through Reiki is a Reiki healer. This ability comes after receiving Reiki attunements from a Reiki teacher and is for the life time. As soon as the the process of attunement is completed, the recipient becomes a Reiki healer and can begin giving healing sessions. During the healing sessions, the energy automatically flows through his upper energy channels to his hands and then further to the recipient. It is the universal energy and not his own energy which is used for healing.

Who is a Reiki Grand Master?
“Reiki Grand Master” is only a self-assumed title that certain Reiki teachers start calling themselves after they have trained someone to the level of Reiki teacher who in turn has trained another Reiki teacher. It is just to satisfy personal ego, an effort to falsely impress others for commercial purposes or show superiority over others. Reiki in fact teaches to set the ego aside but if someone particularly a Reiki teacher clings to his ego, it is not something appreciable. Such teachers don’t seem to follow the Reiki principles in their true spirit.

How does Reiki work?
In the present day world, Reiki is thought of as a tool to heal just the physical body but this is a very limited use of this wonderful energy. Reiki energy entering from the crown and flowing through the hands of the healer, enters the body of the recipient and automatically reaches the origin of trouble and heals it. This energy is supremely intelligent and automatically flows to where it is exactly needed. Whatever be the cause of illness, Reiki energy knows where to go and what to do. It is therefore not necessary for the practitioner to be a traditional medical practitioner or know the cause of illness. He is simply an open channel through whom the energy flows. However, if the cause is known, it can make the healing session more effective.

Who can receive Reiki treatment?
Reiki treatment should be given to all those who are willing to receive it.

Amongst other ethics of Reiki treatment, one basic rule is that Reiki treatment should only be offered and not forced on any one. Free will of a person must always be respected and must never be violated. However, it may happen that a person says “yes” to the treatment outwardly but is not accepting it inwardly. Should this happen, the recipient is not likely to get full benefit from it.

Most of the healing systems do not recommend self medication but in case of Reiki, it is absolutely opposite. It is a wonderful tool for self treatment and can be used effectively without the fear of any harm through it.

Time needed for Reiki treatment
A treatment session can last from a few minutes to more than an hour depending upon the gravity and nature of the problem. Number of sessions would depend on the recipient’s needs and his/her response to this energy. Acute problems often respond quickly, while chronic problems may need more intensive treatment and take a longer period of time to resolve. Some cases may require only a few sessions while some would require a regular, daily treatment for several weeks whereas a chronic case may have to be treated for many months. Since Reiki practitioner is only a channel for the flow of energy and is not the one who controls the energy or does the healing, he/she cannot and should not predict the number of sessions. All this is decided by the Supreme. It is important that one should not attach unnecessary expectations with the process of healing.

What does the recipient feel?
Reiki treatment does not involve the use of any equipment or machine. The treatment is given by simply placing the hands on the body of the recipient without rubbing or exerting undue pressure. The recipient generally feels a pleasant sensation of warmth in the area being treated. At times one can even feel waves of energy entering the body through the areas where hands of practitioner are resting at that time. The flow of energy is very soothing and gentle. Therefore, no pain of any kind is caused by the treatment. Sensation of gentle tingling is also not uncommon. All this gives a very enjoyable sensation. As the energy balances and settles itself, pain, stress and tension gradually vanish leaving a pleasant sense of relaxation and a feeling of wellness.

Can Reiki do any harm?
Some of us are rightly very conscious of side effects of any medical treatment. Since Reiki is also a healing system, people have questions about this too. Let this be known for certain that Reiki treatment has no harmful side effects whatsoever. This infallible life force energy always works for our greatest good whatever that might be. So there is nothing to worry about it. The best part of Reiki treatment is that one cannot be harmed by it even if over used. Use of medicines with Reiki treatment
According to scientific findings, Reiki supports and increases the effectiveness of almost every other kind of medication and treatment. It is truly complementary, is neither disturbed by nor hinders any other form of medication. It goes very well alongside. There may be cases where Reiki treatment alone may take a longer time to heal up, necessitating medication also. In such cases, it may be better to use medicines with Reiki without the fear of any interference. However, Reiki treatment must never be given during surgery when the patient in on the operation table and under anesthesia.

Reiki and Religion

Reiki is though spiritual in nature but is neither a religion nor a belief system. It is neither a psychic way of treatment nor based on any type of magic. It is a gift of God and is open for all the living beings like sunlight and air, irrespective of faith and religion. One does not have to believe any thing against one’s faith in order to learn and practice this wonderful system. Similarly, one does not have to believe in it to receive Reiki treatment. Reiki is a positive energy and is present in every human being. It only needs to be activated for conscious use.

In learning and practicing Reiki, there is absolutely no room for any kind of prejudice. Like most of the other treatment systems such as allopathy, homeopathy, aromatherapy, herbal medicine, reflexology, massage therapy, color therapy, acupressure, acupuncture etc. etc., the Reiki teacher and the student, the Reiki healer and the recipient may belong to two different belief systems and still work in perfect harmony with each other.
