Causes of Mental Stress

The modern busy, hectic and competitive life style has given the gift of stress to almost every living human being. Many persons apparently looking healthy and smart with impressive personalities are stressed inside. If you study their behavior and life style and if they ever speak their heart to you, you would know that most of them have very uncomfortable state of mind. They are seldom at peace; do not have sound and refreshing sleep, do not enjoy their meals like a normal happy person and so on. They have achieved material success but at the cost of their peace of mind; they have sold their happiness for worldly gains. They want to get rid of their stress but either do not know how to mange it or have no time to do that.

There are innumerable causes of mental stress. Some are:

  1. Over enthusiasm or ambitiousness
  2. Running after desires rather than needs
  3. Desire to subdue and dominate others
  4. Craze to pile up wealth
  5. Using all the energies to become rick quickly
  6. Getting top grades in the college or university
  7. Trying to achieve bigger goals in shorter time
  8. Centralizing the authority in self
  9. Expand the business beyond means and requirement
  10. Difficult work environments like working with demanding boss or trouble creator colleagues
  11. Difficult and/or disharmonized family life
  12. Broken or strained relationships
  13. Bad financial state
  14. Prolonged sickness
  15. General discontentment
  16. Worries about the future

This list can perhaps never be complete because everyone has his own peculiar environments. All of the above list is not and cannot be applicable to everyone. The causes(s) will be different depending upon peculiar problems, thought pattern, life style, habits, desires, perception of life and all the other environments of the individual.
